Debt payoff when you live paycheck to paycheck
Start by checking that each paycheck covers its essential expenses and required debt payments. Estimate extra debt payments from what remains after those commitments and a cash reserve.
The problem to solve
A large extra payment can look affordable in a monthly budget but leave too little for groceries before payday. Re-borrowing to cover that gap can undo the payment.
A hypothetical example
| Available cash this payday | $1,800 |
|---|---|
| Bills and essential spending | $1,250 |
| Required debt minimums | $250 |
| Cash reserve | $200 |
| Possible extra debt payment | $100 |
For a separate illustration, a $1,200 debt at 0% APR takes 12 monthly payments of $100 or 6 of $200. At a positive APR, interest changes both the time and total cost. The cash-flow plan determines whether the extra $100 is sustainable.

Common questions
What is the difference between snowball and avalanche?
Snowball directs extra payments toward the smallest balance. Avalanche directs them toward the highest APR. Both examples assume you keep paying the other debts’ minimums.
Does a projected date guarantee payoff?
No. Changes in interest, fees, new borrowing, or payment amounts change the result. Check the assumptions and your statements.
Does MyGood negotiate or settle debt?
No. MyGood provides budgeting and repayment planning, not debt settlement or lending.
