Paycheck budgeting guide · Updated 2026-11-02
What bills should I pay with my next check?
List the bills due from this payday through the day before the next one. Add everyday essentials and debt minimums, then subtract that total and your cash reserve from the money available.
The problem to solve
A bank balance can include rent money, a pending card payment, and money already promised to another bill. Looking only at the balance makes those commitments easy to miss.
A hypothetical example
| Available after Friday’s check | $2,400 |
|---|---|
| Rent due before next payday | $1,300 |
| Utilities | $180 |
| Debt minimums | $120 |
| Groceries and transport | $300 |
| Cash reserve | $150 |
| Remaining for 14 days | $350 ($25 per day) |
The $25 daily estimate is what remains after the listed commitments. An omitted insurance payment or pending purchase makes the estimate too high; update the list before using it.
How MyGood helps
MyGood lets you organize bills by category and payment day, see which paycheck covers them, and track expenses as they happen. Recording a bill in MyGood does not send a payment to the biller.
See plans and pricing or change the numbers in the public planner.
Common questions
Does the planner pay my bills?
No. It helps you plan and record them. You still arrange payments with your bank or biller.
What about a bill due on payday?
Check when the deposit becomes available and when the payment clears. If timing is uncertain, reserve money from the previous paycheck.
What if the bills exceed the check?
The plan should show a shortfall, not hide it as zero spending money. Review essential costs, available cash, and possible arrangements with billers.
